Mike & I went on a wonderful day cruise through Icy Straights to Glacier Bay yesterday. The day was beautiful, sun was shining all day with some light clouds and the fog rolled in to greet us as we arrived back in Juneau. While we were out and about, this is what we experienced:
The boat left Auke Harbor at 5:00 am. The sunrise was at 4:20, and this is what it looked like as we were leaving Juneau.
We had very calm seas all day long as we enjoyed our ride to Glacier Bay
This is a beautiful lighthouse on Point Retreat
Our first stop of the day was to enjoy Orcas. There were so many of them swimming and feeding. Noone on board had ever seen so many killer whales in one place before. It was spectacular to see. Here is a video of many killer whales
We even got to see a young orca breaching.

The second stop of the day was at Point Adolphus to see a pod of humpback whales

The trip allowed us to experience some breathtaking scenery in the Icy Straights
Our next stop was to visit a large group of sea otters
whew - the smell!!!
Lots of cormorants on Marble Island
One of the many glaciers we visited

Harbor Seals (and a pup) resting on an iceberg

It was a great day - we got home after 10pm
We were welcomed back to Juneau with the rain & fog rolling in...it was ok though - we had perfect weather for our trip.
