Brown Bear

This picture was taken on a penninsula off Lynn Canal outside of Juneau by someone Mike works with.
I understand you don't want to mess with the Brown Bears. They are sure cute to look at, but they can be very hazardous to your health!!!

Momma black bear with cubs in the pouring rain

We visited the glacier to see if the salmon are running and guess what, they are! We saw sockeye salmon in the stream, bald eagles in the trees watching and the bear family next to the stream. Momma bear was on the ground under a tree resting while the cubs (one black and one cinnamon colored) climbed and played in the tree. Papa bear was on the trail making rounds. He didn't mind all of us taking pictures of his family, but he did come up to make sure everything was safe a few times.
This black bear sow was a mix of cinnamon and black, I haven't seen one with this type of coloring before. She just watched her cubs so lovingly and then took a little nap while they played on the branches WAY up high in that tree.
Here are the cubs in the tree - the black cub was so curious and his cinnamon brother was just relaxing on the branch...
Here is a video of the cubs climbing back down the tree...

This is a video of momma bear nursing the babies. They got a little frisky and she had to 'discipline' them at the end of the video. Too cute!

By the way, I lost the lens cap to my camera just below the platform we were standing on and needless to say - it will stay until a ranger goes to get it because I don't feel like getting eaten over a lens cap. I'd rather buy a new camera!
