Brown Bear

This picture was taken on a penninsula off Lynn Canal outside of Juneau by someone Mike works with.
I understand you don't want to mess with the Brown Bears. They are sure cute to look at, but they can be very hazardous to your health!!!

Juneau Avalanche

There was an avalanche around 1pm yesterday afternoon just past downtown Juneau. It is a known avalanche zone but this was a pretty bad one.
We drove out to Douglas Island today and got some photographs. There was a large section of the road affected and it went all the way down to the ocean. I really feel for the people that live on the other side of that area. I would imagine they will have to take boats to get around until they get the road cleared...
Here is a side view from the bridge that crosses to Douglas Island. You can see that it isn't too far from businesses.

No trees here anymore!

In this picture you can see how deep it is over the road. It had to have some amazing force behind it!

And in this picture you can see the equipment working very hard to clear the road.
