Brown Bear

This picture was taken on a penninsula off Lynn Canal outside of Juneau by someone Mike works with.
I understand you don't want to mess with the Brown Bears. They are sure cute to look at, but they can be very hazardous to your health!!!

Great Weekend!!!

We had a wonderful weekend! Mom came up and visited for three great days! It is true, you know you miss someone but when you get to be with them you realize how MUCH you missed them. This visit was so needed! I sure am glad she was able to come up. The flight was delayed in Seattle a couple hours on the way up, but after catching up on some sleep Saturday morning, we were able to have a great weekend!!!

We drove around and looked at sights, we ate at a restaurant looking out over the ocean one day and watched a fishing boat trolly along...

There were alot of Bald Eagles and seagulls, and we got to see a seal bobbing his head up out of the water a few times (unfortunately he didn't stay up long enough to get a photo) but little other wildlife out and about. I understand the bears may not be hibernating quite yet, but they are starting to get all tucked-in for the winter and we didn't see them.

We did see some salmon in Steep Creek (that was a little bit of a surprise) and it was really neat to see how BIG they are! They were so close you could have reached into the water and grabbed one...very cool.

The most surprising thing about the weekend is the fact that it didn't rain AT ALL! Unfortunately at 7:45 am on Tuesday morning (just as mom's flight was leaving Juneau) the rain/snow started again. Couldn't have had better timing if we tried, that is for sure, and... it hasn't stopped raining since.

I'm so glad that the weekend went well and the weather cooperated for Aunt Millie's stay with you. I know what you mean about realizing how much you miss someone. You live without someone on a regular basis and your schedule continues to flow and life demands your attention, but when you see your family again - you become aware of how much fuller and richer your life is with them in it.

Love you,
Lynn

Come visit us in Alaska!!!
