Brown Bear

This picture was taken on a penninsula off Lynn Canal outside of Juneau by someone Mike works with.
I understand you don't want to mess with the Brown Bears. They are sure cute to look at, but they can be very hazardous to your health!!!

A little bit of Haines, Alaska

Here are a few images from Haines in September 2010. It was rainy & cold and at times, there was snow mixed in. The snow dusted the mountains and came pretty low the day we left Haines. It had to be in the 30°s while we were there...brrrrrr

The Chilkoot Barracs is a national historic site in Haines.

The government built a permanent Army post here in the early 1900's.

We took the Haines Highway to Canada (turned around) and came back to Haines. In the picture below, you will see the beauty of Autumn along the Haines Highway and the snow covered mountains in the background are in British Columbia, Canada.

The cutest little sight. As we drove along we saw this 'Honey Moon Hotel' and just had to stop for a photo.

There were Trumpeter Swans swimming in a river. You can see the leaves that have already fallen in the water. It was very beautiful and peaceful. The swans were very calm and didn't seem to be bothered by us stopping to get their photo.
The gray colored ones are immature swans.

As we drove around town we saw this boat wreck. It just looked so neat and there was a little park near it, so you can have a picnic (if you don't mind the rain).
I love the Native Artwork in Alaska. There are many wood carvings with brightly colored designs.
These guys were fly-fishing in the rain. It was cold, but I guess if you get some yummy salmon then it was worth it, right?
