Brown Bear

This picture was taken on a penninsula off Lynn Canal outside of Juneau by someone Mike works with.
I understand you don't want to mess with the Brown Bears. They are sure cute to look at, but they can be very hazardous to your health!!!

Trip out the road...again...

We went out to the end of the road again this evening. Alyx was the driver today. It is a wonderful to just spend this time together. She gets to practice her driving skills & we also get the added bonus of her getting to practice pulling over so Mom can take some pictures.
Here is a sampling of what we enjoyed today:
This rock cliff is right next to the road. Just down a little ways there were some people rock-climbing on it, (should have got a picture of that too...)
This little guy is waiting for the pond to finish thawing. Me too!
The water was so still that you could just see right through to the rocks on the bottom! It is usually pretty rough, but we just had such a beautiful day today and the sea was so very calm.
Here is a video of some seals we saw this evening. Somebody was shooting a gun nearby and you can hear that in the video (bummer) but it is neat to watch these guys!

This is our place and the snow is ALMOST gone in the front yard!!! According to the weather station, we had a total of 195.5 inches this past winter. (I got my calculator out and discovered that is a little over 16¼ feet of snow.) Whew, that was a lot of shoveling!!!
If we have temps tomorrow like we did today, I'm thinking we will be done with the snow until next year!!!
Time to start planting the seeds Mary sent to us.
